Up close and personal: Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity for iPhone

I’m feeling classic today!  It must be Thursday.  So I thought, how about if I write about a classic, reliable, timeless watch? I’m sure you’ve all heard of a Citizen watch… at some point in your life.  We’re talking about 89 years now since the birth of this brand so yes, it has been with us all of our lives.

But what is so special about a classic watch and most importantly, what on earth does it have to do with a technology-driven, gadget-wise blog?

With all the Dick-Tracy-watch frenzy lately, so many renowned and unknown brands developing the ultimate device, I think it’s nice to explore a different approach to the word “smart“; different from the concept of “My watch can do a lot of stuff! It’s so smart!

Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity

But the Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity – that’s the name – is definitely giving the word smart a new meaning.   How? Let’s start with the basics.  At first glance it’s just a nice big black watch – with subtle details in green or blue.  It’s  low energy powered by Eco-Drive technology – that sounds important – and has Bluetooth®4.0

And now the fun part: this watch vibrates! Developed to be paired with iPhone, this vibrating watch will alert you when you have mail, a calendar appointment or if you lose connection with your phone. You can even setup different types of vibrations to identify the alerts.

Also, by pressing both buttons of the watch it will trigger a loud sound on your phone to find it when it’s misplaced – that feature is called the iPhone® Search. No more “where the _____ is my phone“? (You can fill in the blank with your favorite word!)

But why would a vibrating watch be considered smart when it doesn’t do anything else? Well, we’re becoming addicted to our mobile phones, constantly checking for any activity.  Apps tend to send notifications for every single important or unimportant thing that happens so you might end up looking at your mobile every minute, all day long.  Setting up your watch alerts for only really important events, well, that should be nice… and smart.  Don’t you think? Plus you’ll never have to worry about not having the correct time because you always will. The Proximity is synced with your iPhone.

Here’s an interesting video about how the Eco-Drive Technology works.  For watches that never need a battery!

So, would you go for a stylish, good ol’ Citizen, vibrating watch to filter your phone alerts? I think I would! Some deteching might come handy.  Even if it’s only for a few hours.

It’s getting late.  Yeah… I’m a time-control victim too.

See you soon!  It was nice to have you here.
