With mobile apps like Periscope, Meerkat and Snapchat, full screen vertical videos have been high in demand for smartphone users whose devices are 5-inches and above. YouTube for Android (or any other OS) hasn’t really supported the fullscreen video switch yet, until today. YouTube for Android has updated its app to play vertical videos in full screen, rather than using the typical (but awkward) small letterbox video designed for landscape sized videos. In version 10.28 of the YouTube for Android app, you will experience the new screen design. The YouTube for Android update should be hitting the Google Play Store soon, but the apk is currently available now.

The update to the iOS app is now out. iOS now gets full screen vertical video support.
