Google Contacts Update Improves Contact Management

Google Contacts

Google Contacts on the web is a great web-based application to monitor and manage your contacts saved to your Google account. Now it’s being reported that the Android version will get an update to bring over some features from the web version over to the mobile app.

Google Contacts version 1.5.16 alters the app UI just a little, instead of two separate tabs (all contacts & favorites) to file through, Google now wants you to access your contacts directly. Now you’ll see all of your contacts without having to pick and choose an option. You’ll also notice a “hidden section” that you can toggle. In this menu, you’ll be able to quickly manage your duplicate contacts right away within the app. Another web feature from Google Contacts is the ability to now add labels on Android. Now you can properly organize your large amount of contacts with tag names (School, Work, Church, Old Friends, Family, etc.). I have a good feeling that these two features will be heavily used on Android from now on.

Google Contacts app 1.5.16 should be available now, or it will be heading your way this week. There are some rumors that only Nexus, Google Play Edition, and Android One devices can only use this update. But the guys over at APKMirror should have you covered with the latest apk file to install right away. Although I highly recommend that you wait a while (1 to 2 weeks from today) to see if your device will list the update on its own. Link to the Play Store (along with QR Code) is below.
