Twitter

While many of us in the USA were resting (or partying) late last night, some hackers got busy and compromised several popular Twitter accounts and posted spam on their behalf to their followers’ timelines. The accounts affected are PlayStation, Viacom, Xbox Support, National Transportation Safety Board, The New Yorker, The Next Web, The International Committee of the Red Cross and MONEY.

The undermined accounts all promoted ways to help their followers obtain more Twitter followers for free by clicking on a dangerous link. So far all of the tweets have been removed and the account owners have been made aware of the incident. If you experience symptoms like these then we highly recommend that you reset your Twitter password, and filter your connected apps & games that access the service by checking the list of connections in your settings. Remember that if something there doesn’t belong then it can be used to access your profile details or hack your account.
